Why is engraving on tungsten-carbide rings grey and can it be changed?

Tungsten-carbide is naturally grey. The inscription on the ring is created by laser engraving through the gold-plating layer on the ring to create the symbols. This is why the lettering looks grey. We do not have another surface finish available for this. The lettering is only available in grey on these rings, and we are NOT able to gold plate the tungsten rings AFTER they have been engraved. Generally, gold-plating will last for a couple of years of regular wear or much longer if the ring is not worn and kept more as a souvenir. The engraving in the solid gold 10K ring is formed by carving directly into a model that is reproduced by the lost-wax casting technique. These are deeper and broader engravings, and because the ring is solid gold, the same gold color is in the letters as on the rest of the ring surface. Therefore the engravings between the two styles of the ring look quite different as you can see from the pictures.
